Local OBC Students Move On to National BPA Conference in California

Top students from Ohio Business College will be attending the Business Professionals of America (BPA) 2010 National Leadership Conference, “Shoot for Success”, in Anaheim, CA May 3-10, 2010. Ohio Business College chapter members, Montay Burks(Elyria), Christy Jones (Lorain), Mirian Burks (Elyria), Yolanda Ross (Elyria), and April Stump (Elyria) will join over 5,000 other conference delegates from across the nation to participate in national level business skills competitions, workshops, and general sessions.

These five OBC students qualified for the national conference by placing at the State competition held earlier in March at Wright State College in Celina, Ohio. Accounting major Montay Burks took 3rd place in Payroll Accounting and 4th place in Banking and Finance. Christy Jones, a Human Resources major, took 1st place in Presentation Management, 3rd place in Human Resource Management and 3rd place in Desktop Publishing. Human Resources major, Mirian Burks, took 5th place in Basic Office Systems and Procedures while Yolanda Ross, also a Human Resources major, took 2nd place in the Business Spelling Bee and 3rd place in Prepared Speech. Medical Administrative Assistant major, April Stump, took 1st place in Medical Transcription, 3rd place in Medical Office Procedures and 5th place the Business Spelling Bee.

Business Professionals of America (BPA) is a national, non-profit organization for high school and college students preparing for careers in business and information technology. BPA is contributing to the preparation of a world-class workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic and technological skills.

The BPA Chapter is currently raising funds to cover travel and registration costs for the five OBC delegates to attend the upcoming National Conference. Corporate contributions can be made by contacting Tracy Graham, BPA advisor, at 888-514-3126.
